Harm reduction is simply reducing the harm associated with the behaviours you’re involved with. Harm reduction is not necessarily about stopping these behaviours, but modifying them to be as safe as possible.
To maintain good sexual health it’s advisable to establish a relationship with your local sexual health service, such as Glasgow’s Sandyford services. They will advise you on safer sexual practices and methods, such as the appropriate use of condoms and lubricant. They can also offer you a sexual health screening to detect and treat the full range of sexually transmitted infections.
The regular use of illicit substances can lead to physical and psychological problems. Accessing your local Community Addiction Team (CAT) or related voluntary sector services (such as abstinence-based supports and rehabilitation centres) can provide you with access to advice, information and support, including prescribing, needle-exchange and psychiatric services.
As with the regular use of illicit substances, regular use of alcohol can also lead to physical and psychological problems. A wide range of alcohol services are available with advice, information and support to keep your use of alcohol at a manageable level.
